An open call for help

OK, so my current computer has some pictures, podcast stuff, songs, etc. I would like to move over to my new one. Here's the problem. My current PC will not recognize any USB devices except for my USB mouse anymore. My DVD burner, my flash drives, nothing. So I can't transfer files to them. And the reason I had an external DVD burner drive in the first place is because the one that the computer came with was busted an wouldn't burn anything to any disc anymore.

I can still access all these files. The pictures are (near as I can tell, because I've not time to visually inspect every single one) all fine, the songs, the final 3 episodes of Morevi which I'm glad I downloaded well before this mess happened, StarCraft, all the files currently on this hard drive work fine.

The only problem is that thanks to no internet connection and no USB recognition and no working CD/DVD-R burner I have no way to save these files and move them over to my brand new PC, which I have not yet hooked up for this reason.

Does anyone out there know what I can do? I mean, I know that multiple PCs can be connected, but I do not know what kind I would need, if I have them already or not, or how.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. You can leave a comment here, since I will be able to come down to campus Friday and will have access to e-mail, or you can send it to arkle@comcast.net. If you've never sent me an e-mail before, please include the words "file salvaging" in the subject line so I don't accidentally delete it.

Unplanned Hiatus

Hey there, Arkle here coming to you live from the computer lab on my college campus.

Why?

Well, my home computer has crapped out on me. It's not dead dead, but it won't let me get on-line anymore, and it's stopped recognizing several of my USB devices (though oddly not all. Hmm.)

But worry not, this unplanned hiatus for the Geek of all Trades podcast will be a short one as I have already acheived a new computer. After some neccesary stuff from the old one has been saved and transferred, I will get back on-line, and immediately post a Geek of All Trades special episode I'd been working on. Originally this bonus was suppsoed to go in the feed AFTER the 2008 in Right Wing History episode, but that one is on hold too until two of the people I contacted about participating respond. I don't even care if they say no, it would just be nice to get a response. Now, Jack Clark from Blast the Right has an excuse, he said on last week's episode that he is about a month behind on e-mails, so he probably hasn't even gotten to mine yet, and Soccergirl just got engaged so I'm sure she's focusing more on that than on e-mail at the moment.

But just so you know, otherwise it's coming along well. More than half the year has been written (the rest I can do once I have internet back), and both Tosus of the Der Geek podcast and Tristan of the Wholly Pointless Podcast have sent in their submissions, and my Dad should be sending his shortly.

So until then, enjoy the Arkleless ride. ;-)

25 out of 32

You guys remember the soundtrack I made for And Here's To You? Of course you do, I talk about it quite a bit.

Anyway, just for the hell of it, I published it as an iMix playlist in iTunes! OK, so only 25 of the tracks actually made it up there, for various reasons I won't bore you with.

But here it is, And Here's To You, the iMix.

Update on the status of the 2008 In Right Wing History special

In terms of the jokes, I've written January through August, and am about to start working on September.

I asked Jack Jafee of 12v Theater if he'd be interested, but he has sadly declined.

In terms of voices, here is the list as of this writing.

January - Me (recording tonight)
February - Open, though it may go to Jack Clark from Blast The Right
March - Me
April - Tosus (recorded)
May - Me
June - My Dad (not yet recorded)
July - Me
August - Tristan from Wholly Pointless Podcast (not yet recorded)
September - Me (not yet written)
October - Open (not yet written)
November - Me (not yet written)
December - Open (not yet written)

As of now, Soccergirl has been asked to contribute, but as yet has not responded.
